Three chosen for Vietnam’s Next Top Model final

The final round of Vietnam’s Next Top Model, the fashion reality show, will be held at the InterContinental Asiana Saigon Hotel in HCMC’s District 1 on Jan. 23, Thanh Nien reports

The three finalists, Khieu Thi Huyen Trang from Bac Ninh Province, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan from HCMC and Nguyen Thu Thuy from Hanoi beat thousands of competitors nationwide in a series of challenges.

They will model outfits by designer Do Manh Cuong and perform on stage.

Trang, Lan and Thuy will be joined during the evening by the top 18 models from the contest and performances by popular singers. The final will be broadcast live on VTV3 at 8 pm.

The winner of Vietnam’s Next Top Model, which is based on the American show of the same name, will get a two-year modeling contract with CA Model worth VND1 billion, a training course at one of the world’s leading model agencies, Wilhelmina, and a Diamond Membership Card for two years at California Fitness and Yoga Center worldwide.

The winning prize also includes a two year supply of Revlon cosmetics worth VND200 million, a diamond ring worth VND200 million and a Piaggio LX 125.

The program is brought to Vietnam by Multimedia JSC which was given the exclusive rights to produce and broadcast the show from CBS Studios International.

Vo Manh Quoc wins accounting contest

Vo Manh Quoc defeated five other contestants to win the final round of the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) contest organized by the Accounts and Auditing Club of HCMC University of Economics in District 3 on Saturday evening.

Quoc pocketed VND10 million in cash and will be receive three extra marks in his final exam.

Vo Chau Khanh Hoang came second, taking home VND7 million in cash and two extra marks in his finals while Hoang Thi Thu Thuy pocketed the third prize worth VND5 million in cash, plus one mark in his final exam. KPMG Audit Company offered the three winners work-experience at the company.

The annual contest, sponsored by CPA Australia, KPMG, and Hoithao.vn aimed to give students a chance to demonstrate their skills to potential employers and improve student’s soft skills.

The contest,which was in its ninth year, had 3,500 entrants majoring in accounting and auditing from universities in HCMC.

Millenium English contest enters finals

HA NOI — The Ha Noi Millennium English Contest, jointly held by Apollo English and the Department of Education and Training in Ha Noi, sponsored by Nokia Ovi-Chat, has reached its final round, after being officially launched in May. The event will be held on Sunday at the Tuoi Tre Theatre in Ha Noi.

The contest aims to provide Ha Noi school students the opportunity to understand more about the capital's history while at the same time improving their English language skills by telling stories about the capital in English.

After beating nearly 2,000 students from more than 100 high schools, 25 students from 13 high schools in Ha Noi, all with the highest scores in the first two rounds, have been short listed to compete with each other to determine the winner of this contest.

The final round is comprised of three parts: Part One – Quick Q&A, Part Two – Sudden Death, and Part Three – Oral Presentation. In Part One, 25 students will answer 10 questions with varying levels of difficulty.

The 10 students with the highest scores will then enter the next part – Sudden Death. The five best students of that section will then enter the third – Oral Presentation.

The topics for these segments will revolve around the history of Ha Noi. In the last part, the five final students will take turns giving a presentation on the theme "Learning from the 1,000-year history of Ha Noi: what will the youth of today do?"

An additional question from the judging board will be asked after each presentation.

The selection criteria includes a knowledge of history, English language abilities and good presentation skills. The winners will receive valuable awards, scholarships and gifts from Apollo and Nokia.

Along with the 25 students entering the final round, the 10 high schools with the most students joining in the first round will also participate in this final round. These schools will bring exciting performances to the table to celebrate the1,000-year anniversary of Ha Noi. — VNS
